Free range means that the chickens have the freedom to roam around and have access to outdoor spaces. Hens raised in a free range environment have a better quality of life and they can engage in natural behaviours such as walking, dust-bathing or foraging. They are raised on organic feeds that contains no hormones, pesticides or genetically modified organisms.
Birds who are raised in cages in large flocks can be vulnerable to diseases, so they receive antibiotics almost daily and hormones to increase the production. Their feeds are unregulated and they are often fed leftover animal by product mixed with grains.
